My client, a 100 bed hospital in NC located about 45 minutes south of Raleigh, NC, has a need for a Clinical Staff Educator.  This person will be working on the floors of the hospital with the staff RNs.  They will be helping get the readmission rates down, creating new initiatives, etc.  Adult education experience is required as well as a good nursing background needed.

Responsibilities

Assist the Clinical Education Manager in the following duties as an facilitator, teacher and resource person. Assesses, plans, organizes, implements and evaluates clinical staff development programs. Provides and coordinates orientation, in-service education, continuing education, patient safety and education in the clinical setting for clinical staff personnel in keeping with individual needs, departmental needs, regulatory and agency requirements.  Assist with the coordination of annual required education: risk management, safety, infection control, employee health, etc. Resource person for Departmental Managers in the development of new services and/or procedures. Coordinates Nursing Staff Orientation and Ancillary Clinical Staff Orientation.  Reviews annually and up-dates Orientation Skills Checklist in conjunction with the Clinical Education Manager and Departmental Managers.

Coordinates departmental educational needs with the Departmental Managers in conjunction with the Clinical Education Manager.  Participates in continuous quality improvement programs and provides input on quality indicators.  Provides in-service education classes to Clinical Staff regarding care to neonates, infants, children, teens, adults and geriatric patients.  Maintains educational records.  Ensure that all necessary documentation of clinical education is provide for filing in employment files.  Works with SRAHEC/and other outside health educators in maintaining an up-to-date Medical Library for employees and medical staff. Assists and promotes the development of new policies and procedures. Reviews and updates current polices and departmental goals. Assist with the coordination and development of patient safety and educational activities.  Coordinates special projects as assigned by the Clinical Education Manager and/or Chief Nursing Officer. Organizes, coordinates and plans Patient Educational supplies/materials for the Clinical Service Departments. Plans and Coordinates community education seminars in conjunction with the Clinical Education Manager. Coordinates ACLS/PALS to promote professional growth of employees in the clinical service’s areas. Works as a liaison with local schools of nursing to promote and support the nursing internship program.

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or related field.  Current N.C. Registered Nurse license.  Current CPR, Evidence of continuing education in specialty or acute care setting, management skills, and presence of mandatory education programs preferred.

Minimum Experience, Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements

Five (5) years of Nursing experience that includes (3) years of significant experience working with adult learning principles. Strong team leader and masterful presenter. Excellent knowledge of adult learning theory, training, employee involvement theories, productivity techniques, quality enhancement, and organization and personal assessment instruments.  Demonstrated ability in research, facilitation, diagnostic techniques, individual and team coaching, presentation, media design, data collection, instructional design, and administration of a variety of assessment tools.  Highly developed intrapersonal skills. Ability to grasp the internal client’s perspective. Excellent organizational, time management, communication,  analytical, and problem-solving skills. Ability to travel occasionally.
